Creative Twist Challenge for wk 8/31/09

The challenge this week @ Creative Twist was to use your favorite book, or book series, as inspiration for a project. Since I love the Kinsey Milhone alphabet mysteries by Sue Grafton, I chose that as my inspiration. Here's a look at the first book in the series:

And here's my layout for the challenge. A couple of older photos (but ones I love!) of my daughter showing her four-year-old attitude!

embossed vellum card

Last week, the challenge at Practical Scrappers was to use vellum on a project. I have some vellum sheet that have been in my stash forever, so I decided to try embossing some vellum with my Cuttlebug and the music notes embossing folder.

The embossed portions of the vellum turned really white, which wasn't really the look I wanted for this particular use, so I sponged Antique Linen Distress ink over the embossed vellum to give it more of an aged look, then layered it over some vintage print paper, and added a few little embellishments to make this card.

A scrappy weekend!

Last weekend was the Birthday Bash crop in honor of ScrapAttackScrapbooking's 4th birthday. Laurie and the DT always have the best on-line crops, with plenty of games, challenges, and great prizes, too! These are some of the my pages based on the crop challenges.

Sketch #147 from ScrapSketch

For my last DT challenge @ ScrapSketch this month, I used Stephanie's sketch #147 for these photos of my granddaughter. I added just a little blue to offset all the pink this time, LOL! Don't you just love that little baby smile?

Creative Twist Challenge for wk 8/24

This week's challenge at Creative Twist
was to use something upside down/inside out/sideways, etc. I had to think about this one for awhile, but finally came up with a couple of ideas.

On the scrapbook page, I cut strips from one sheet of pp and stitched them to another piece of pp. I finger pressed the seams open, and then zigzag stiched over the seams. To get the "inside out" look, I used the stitched paper with the seams showing. (The handsome couple in the photo are my daughter and son-in-law :)

For the card, I used some white Queen & Co. holly & poinsettia felt. I peeled the adhesive from the back side, and sprinkled red & green glitter over the adhesive, so the end result is a bit of Christmas "bling"! I used a Fiskars border punch on the green paper, some dewdrops for the berries and flower centers, and a ribbon bow.

Blog Hop Winners!

A big "thank you" to everyone who took part in the ScrapSketch blog hop this weekend! It was so much fun to read everyone's comments, check out their blogs, and see all the wonderful projects everyone has created!

Now for the winners: Both Sandy and Diane Parson created a page with the featured sketch, so they both get a prize. In addition, I chose a random winner from everyone who left a comment on my blog, and that person is Monica!

So if you three ladies will email me with your snail mail addresses, I'll get prizes out to you. My email is " bbecknell@cinci.rr.com". Thanks again for taking part in the blog hop!

Our first ScrapSketch Blog Hop is here!

Our first ScrapSketch Blog Hop begins at noon today, 8/21, but since I'll be at work then, I'm posting this a little ahead of time.

For this Blog Hop, we went back in time a little and chose one of the first 20 sketches posted on ScrapSketch. I chose Sketch #15 because I loved the clean lines on this, and the arrangement of the two vertical photos.

This sketch worked perfectly for these two photos of my daughter and her new baby girl. Little Gracie is truly her Mommy's bundle of Joy (and grandma's, too!).

And if you'd rather make cards than scrapbook pages, don't forget that sketches can be adapted to smaller sizes to fit cards, too. (and cards are a great way to use up your scraps!) The Autumn card below is based on this sketch.

Of course, you can't have a Blog Hop without some prizes. If you make a layout or card based on this sketch, and post a link to your creation on this blog post, you'll be entered into a random drawing for a cool RAK (some Thickers, a little bling, some chipboard, etc.) You have until noon EST on Monday, 8/24/09 to post your creation here. Check back Monday evening to see who won!

And now, on to the next blog - Jackie's Paper Crafts for a look at Jackie Solomon's wonderful work! Hope you enjoy the Blog Hop!

On-line scrapping this weekend!

Hope you can join us for a couple of fun events this weekend!

ScrapSketch.com is hosting a blog hop. Each DT member will feature a sketch on her blog, and offer a prize for creating with that sketch and linking it back to the blog.

ScrapAttackScrapbooking.com is celebrating their 4th birthday with an online crop this weekend. In fact, pre-crop challenges are already posted! Scrap Attack crops are always wonderful, so hope you can join us there!

Creative Twist Challenge for wk 8/17

This week's challenge at Creative Twist was to use folds on your project. I did some inking, folding, and tearing on this page to get a distressed look.

The photos are from the Midnight Sun festival in Fairbanks, AK. One booth offered "cowboy sundaes", which were baked beans, BBQ beef, and coleslaw, layered in an ice cream cup. Totally yummy!

Creative Twist Challenge

Christina, one of the gals from the ScrapSketch DT, started a challenge blog called Creative Twist (creativitywithatwist.blogspot.com) and I was lucky enough to make her initial design team!
She has lots of great ideas and challenges in store, so please join us for some fun inspiration.

This week's challenge was to use circles on a layout. These photos are of my niece getting in some basketball practice with her uncle, before she went to basketball camp this summer. She's pretty good - look out WNBA!

Too many peppers, tomatoes & onions.....

We had a bumper crop of peppers, tomatoes and onions this year, so we did something we hadn't done in about 20 years - we spent a Saturday canning! We ended up with about 30 pints of salsa, enchilada sauce, and pickled peppers. It's a hot, messy job but the end result is worth it!

New ScrapSketch layouts

My layouts for the DT assignment at ScrapSketch this week (sketches #138 & 139).

I love these photos of Gracie smiling - she looks so happy (and maybe a little mischievious).

When we were in Alaska, we visited the Forty Below room at Pioneer Park. You can see from the photo that was more like sixty below.....all I can say is "brrrrr!"

ScrapSketch sketches #127 and #129

I just realized that I hadn't posted my last two DT sketches from ScrapSketch. Boy, being out of town on business for a week messed up my schedule!

The photos on these two pages were taken just six days apart, but they show a world of difference! DD went from being a "mommy in waiting" to being mommy to a daughter of her own. How awesome!

sweet dreams

This is for the first challenge at Creative Twist - use eyelets and ribbon as a border on a scrapbook page. So of course, I found a picture of Gracie and some pink papers, eyelets, and ribon, and ended up with this page. You can't see it in the picture, but her onesie said "sweet as can be", and she really is!

Cards for Heroes August drive

If you like to make cards, I encourage you to join in the activities over the next three weeks at ScrapStreet.com, in the Cards for Heroes forum. The cutest birthday greeting ever!!

Here it is - my granddaughter Gracie wishing Grandma a happy birthday! This made my day!
