Fantabulous Cricut Challenge #7

This week's challenge at Fantabulous Cricut was to create a project for Mother's Day. My gift idea is a notebook cover, with a little pocket on the inside to hold receipts, notes, etc. I used A Child's Year for the scallop frame, cut at 4.5", and Create a Critter for the tulips, cut at 4". I embossed the green portion of the tulip cut with the Swiss Dots Cuttlebug folder.

The notepad I used is 5"x8" (in a package of 10 @ Office Depot), so you may need to adjust the dimensions slightly if your notepad is a different size.

I started with 12x12 cardstock, trimmed to 8.5"x12", and scored 5.875" from each edge. (You could also use double sided heavyweight pp, if you prefer) Fold your cardstock on the score lines. This will give you about 1/4" "spine" for your cover to allow for the thickness of the notepad. Unfold the cardstock with the inside facing up.

Next cut two pieces of cardstock 5.75" wide x 6" high. Place one piece of cardstock on the right side of your cover with bottom edges matching. Stitch close to the edge on three sides, leaving the top open. If you prefer, you can use narrowstrips of Tacky Tape instead of stitching.

Slip the chipboard backing of your notepad into the opening of this pocket.

On the second 5.75"x6" piece of cardstock, mark a spot 1/2" from the top on the left edge and 2" from the top on the right edge. Cut between these two marks to get an angled top edge.
Stitch close to the edge on three sides of this pocket, leaving the top open.

You can add pp to the inside of your notebook holder if you like, and don't forget to add a strip of pp or cardstock to cover the top of your notepad.

This is a quick project that makes a nice gift for teachers, too. Hope you enjoy making some of these! Be sure to check out all the other DT projects at Fantabulous Cricut, too!
