The new challenge at Mix It Up Challenges is to use layers on your project. I decided to try something a little different than my usual layering style. This one is sort of a reverse framing technique, inspired by one of Gina K's tutorials.
I used some layering oval dies for this card, cutting three pieces of cardstock to 4" x 5", then cutting the largest oval from lavender cardstock, a slightly smaller one from darker purple cardstock, then a smaller one from black cardstock. The sentiment was stamped onto the card base, positioned to show through the oval cutouts. This layering gives a reverse frame to the sentiment and also some depth to the card without using any foam tape. I added a white oval frame and some stamped & colored flowers to finish it off.
This challenge will be open for six weeks, so I hope you have a chance to play along. We'd love to see your layering techniques at the Mix It Up Challenge Blog!
