September challenge at Merry Little Christmas Challenges

It's September 1st, and time for a new challenge at Merry Little Christmas Challenges!   September kicks off my favorite time of year -  Halloween, Thanksgiving and then on to Christmas!  Just a little more than three months to Christmas now!

For my project this month, I made a couple of Christmas ornaments using something I had not tried before - heat embossable acetate.   I bought mine from Judkins last year at Stampaway, but hadn't tried it yet.    After a little trial and error on a practice sheet, I found that stamping with pigment ink, then overstamping with embossing ink, or just stamping with embossing ink only worked the best.

On the ornament, I used gold embossing powder and used copper embossing powder on the Nativity scene.  (Sorry for the glate on the picture!)  I used my Cricut to cut the shapes but you could use metal dies instead.  I cut a backing layer out of heavy cardstock, then cut three layers of the frame and adhered them together for dimension.  The embossed acetate was adhered to the front and then it was all adhered to the base, using score-tape.  On the Nativity scene, I added some gold dotted vellum over the base first to give a little softer look.  You could use these as gift tags, or even add them to a Christmas card and then the recipient could use them as ornaments.

We hope you get a chance to join us this month at the Merry Little Christmas challenge blog!
