Here we are at the first of May and time for another Mix It Up Challenge! Our challenge this time is inlaid die cutting. If you're not familiar with that technique, it's a bit like a jigsaw puzzle. You diecut your elements and then piece them back together inside the negative area of your first die cut.
Here is my card for the challenge:
To begin this card, I embossed a 4" x 5.25" piece of white cardstock with a diagonal stitch embossing folder. Then I placed the three daisy dies onto that piece and cut them out. I ink blended shades of yellow onto the diecut daisies and then placed them back into the negative space of the white embossed cardstock piece. The flower centers were diecut and placed on top, then I added a stamped sentiment strip and a diecut "hello" sentiment. The "hello" sentiment was also inlaid by cutting the shadow part from ink blended cardstock and the word from black cardstock and then piecing them together. The nice thing about the inlaid die cutting technique, is that you end up with a nice flat card for mailing, but with the effect of added dimension.
Here's a second card made with the same technique. The difference is that after doing the inlaid die cut technique with the daisies, I laid the word die overtop and cut it out, then cut it out of black cardstock and inlaid the sentiment.
I hope you get some time to play along with the Mix It Up inlaid die cutting challenge over the next few weeks. We'd love to see what you create!
